The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has stated that the National Assembly would make details of its annual budget available to members of the public next week.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mohammed Isa, Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Mr. Saraki and made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
Mr. Saraki, who is the Chairman of the National Assembly, made the disclosure while speaking with a team of editors of the London based newspaper- the Economist.
He said that publication of the details of the budget was in line with the anti-corruption stance of the 8th National Assembly.
“For the first time we promised Nigerians that the Senate will disclose its budget breakdown, the committee will make its report available by next week.
“We are resolved to break the tradition of one line item,” he said.
He also promised to support the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s fight against corruption.
He said, “Under my watch the senate will never cover corruption except if the information didn’t come to us”.
