The Bayelsa-born teenager, Miss Ese Oruru – who was abducted from her Bayelsa home and taken to Kano for a forced marriage – and her alleged abductor, Yunusa Yellow has been flown to Abuja on Tuesday morning amid tight security.
This disclosure was made known to pressmen by the spokesperson for the Zone 1 Police Command, ASP. Rabilu Ringim.
According to him, the duo, who were being conveyed to the police headquarters in Abuja left Kano by road at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and will be taken to the Inspector General of Police, who will hand over the 14 years old girl to her family on arrival.
“They are on their way already, and the parents are expected in Abuja today where they would be reunited. She is being taken to Abuja based on the express instruction of the IG,” he said.
The zonal police spokesman was however silent on the fate of Yunusa, the alleged abductor, who was flown to Abuja with Ese.
The team accompanying Ese comprises of an assistant commissioner of police and other top ranking officers.
Meanwhile, the parents of Ese Oruru have said that they will only believe she is free when they see her.
Ese’s father, Charles, said despite being informed by the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa that his daughter had been freed, he would wait until he meets her before celebrating.
“I won’t believe anything until I see my daughter, Ese, in person,” he said.
In the same vein, Ese’s mother, Rose said, “We have been hearing different rumours, but I won’t believe any of them until I see my daughter. When we went to Kano, the Emir said something about her being released to us, so why should I believe them this time?
But I will be happy to see my daughter back home with me and safe.
