CBN responds to illegal recruitment reports – The Central Bank of Nigeria has responded to reports that it carried out an illegal recruitment exercise.
According to reports, the apex bank had secretly hired 909 staff, with President Muhammad Buhari’s nephew, Police IG Solomon Arase’s daughter, and many more relatives of important people among them.
Isaac Okorafor, the bank’s Director of Corporate Communications, however denied any illegality and explained the reasons for the secret recruitment.
“In the last two years, we have had cause to recruit specialists, and what the law says is that if we are going for that kind of recruitment we should apply for waiver, so that we can do targeted recruitment,” Mr. Okoroafor said, according to Premium Times.
“The other issue is that there are states that are not well represented (in the CBN), and in this case we focus on those states to recruits people of certain classes that we used to cover the shortfall in those states,” Mr. Okoroafor said.
