President Muhammadu Buhari has made good his threat to deal severely with top budget officials who altered figures in the 2016 budget thereby making balderdash of his zero budget plans.
As at Thursday evening, no fewer than 184 top government officials from various ministries, departments and agencies (MDA) of the federal government have been redeployed in a major shakeup triggered by the controversy over the 2016 budget.
Confirming the massive shakeup, a top official in the Budget office said that 22 top officers from the Budget Office of the Federation were affected in the mass deployment. The rest were moved away from budget-related duties in other Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.
Of the 22, four directors, six deputy directors, and 12 assistant directors of the budget ministry are to be redeployed.
It was gathered that the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, has already communicated to all the affected personnel and the redeployment will take effect from 11am today.
It would be recalled, during his courtesy trip to Saudi Arabia, President Buhari had threatened to punish all those who were involved in the padding of the budget.
Aside sacking the director of budget, the president also merged the budget office with the planning ministry.
