Chibok Girls Are ‘Still Alive’ – Senator Sani Reveals How They Can Be Rescued
The Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani, has assured Nigerians that the missing Chibok girls will be found, on the grounds that the Federal Government negotiates some persons to “extract” the girls from their current danger.
Speaking at a symposium held in Akure on Wednesday, February 24 as part of the 40th Anniversary of Ondo State and the seventh anniversary of the Olusegun Mimiko-led administration, Senator Shehu stated that the happenings in the country right now reveal that the reign of bloodshed by Boko Haram in the last seven years was strengthened by a few greedy people who profited from the situation.
Bomb Explodes In Police Custody After Being Recovered From Boko Haram
A loud explosion suspected to be from a bomb took place earlier today, Thursday, within the premises of the Adamawa Police Command’s anti-bomb squad and motor traffic department in Jimeta, Yola.
It was gathered that scores of police officers were feared dead in today’s bomb blast at the headquarters of Nigerian Police Anti-Bomb Squad in Adamawa State.
A security source revealed that the explosion occurred due to the ‘mishandling of explosives devices by security personnel’ within the police station.
75-Year-Old Pensioner Dies During Screening In Edo State
Commotion and outrage ensued at the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State following the mysterious death of a local government pensioner, identified as Sunday Oboite, who slumped and died during screening at the reception of the local government secretariat.
According to information gathered, the 75-year-old pensioner, who retired from the Works department of the council, was at the secretariat for screening which the council had directed the pensioners to undertake before they would be paid their 10-month pension arrears.
It was gathered that the septuagenarian, who complained of hunger for several hours, slumped at about 1.20pm after taking Viju milk and water offered to him by an unidentified person.
Soldiers Beat Up Police Officers For Assaulting Army Captain
Drama ensued on Monday in Umuahia, Abia State, when policemen attached to the Railway Police Post molested an unidentified army captain for allegedly parking his 18-seater Mitsubishi bus close to the fence of the station.
According to information gathered, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Post was driving into the station with his white Toyota Highlander SUV car when he spotted the bus and ordered the owner to park properly, saying that the army captain’s vehicle was blocking his way.
The eyewitness who craved anonymity said that when the driver of the bus came out dressed in ash colour native attire, he greeted the DPO and quickly wanted to move his bus, but the police officer ordered him to come closer and explain why he should block his way to the station.
JAMB Cancels Special Centres For 2016 UTME (CBT)
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has on Sunday, February 21, announced that special centres would not be created for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the UTME, which will be Computer Base Test (CBT) mode all through, is expected to begin on Monday, February 29.
In a statement by Head, Media and Information of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the attention of the board was drawn to protests by some alleged prospective candidates in Edo and Lagos states over the closure of the board’s registration portal in preparation to the UTME.
Buhari Appoints Visually-Impaired Man As Special Assistant
President Mohammadu Buhari on Monday approved the appointment of a visually impaired man, Dr. Samuel Inalegwu Ode Ankeli as his Senior Special Assistant with responsibility for his dealings with persons living with disability.
The presidential spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement, said that the appointee was a former campaigner and also “headed the Directorate of Persons With Disability at the Buhari/Osinbajo APC presidential campaign headquarters, the first of any such department in a political party in Nigeria”.
