Nike terminates Manny Pacquiao’s contract – Nike has ended its contractual relationship with Filipino boxing great Manny Pacquiao over a homophobic insult.

The former world champion, who is running for senate in the Philippines, had described homosexual people as being “worse than animals.”

The 37-year old boxer had apologized for the comments later, but the damage had already been done, with Nike terminating his contract.

“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent,” the sportswear giant said in a statement. “We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”

“Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.”
