Unknown gunmen have raided a community in Zamfara state, killing over 50 persons with over half of the houses in the community set ablaze.
According to This Day reports, the suspected cattle rustlers besieged Kwanar Dutse community in Maru Local Government Area of the state, while residents were asleep.
The assailants wrecked havoc, as sporadic gunshots were followed by the wailing of men, women and children who were being killed in cold blood.
It was gathered that the gunmen operated till dawn without the intervention of the military or the police.
It was believed that the gunmen, at the end of the attack, left unchallenged with an unspecified number of cattle.
Confirming the incident, DSP Sanusi Amiru, the state police command’s spokesperson, insisted that only 12 people were killed in the attack, adding that police and the military were drafted to the area to restore peace and provide security for the community.
