There are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Adeyemi Dipeolu as his Special Adviser on Economic Matters.
According to Daily Trust, the appointment was made known by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande on Friday night.
Reacting to several calls by some economic experts, urging the president to form his economic team, Akande said the economic team of President Buhari has been put in place since the inauguration of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in November, 2015.
Akande also said the economic management team is headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
He listed the team’s key members as including the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma; the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; the Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah; the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godswin Emefiele; and the Director-General of the Debt Management Office (DMO).
The VP’s spokesman added that the composition of the team was not static as Agriculture Minister Audu Ogbe and Information Minister Lai Mohammed as well as relevant permanent secretaries have also been involved.
Meanwhile, Dipeolu, a former Director of Capacity Development at UN Economic Commission of Africa (UNECA), based in Addis Ababa was appointed into the position in 2013 and had served since 2009 as chief of staff at UNECA.
He got his qualifications at the Universities of South Africa, Cambridge, Oxford, and Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).
