Jimoh Ibrahim fires Newswatch MD
Jimoh Ibrahim fires Newswatch MD – Billionaire owner of Newswatch Media, Jimoh Ibrahim, sacked the MD of the group of companies, Bolu Afolayan on live TV.
The decision came after journalists of Newswatch Newspapers, Newswatch Magazine and National Mirror Newspapers had stormed the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja, where the 5th Energy Group GMD Lecture was being held.
The journalists came with placards and megaphones, to protest that their salaries hadn’t been paid for more than 13 months. They threatened to halt the progress of the lecture as they sang songs of oppression before the police was called in to escort them out.
Embarrassed at the interruption, Ibrahim on the spot fired Afolayan, and appointed Mr. Demola Abimboye as the new MD.
Ibrahim had criticized Afolayan and the other MDs, who despite the amount of money pumped into the businesses, could not generate enough to keep it afloat.
Ibrahim added that he’d help pay the salaries of some of the affected, but that the MDs and their deputies would have to step down.
