The battle for the $25,000 star prize in the #TECNOOwnTheStage got to a whole new level in episode 9. With six contestants left out of the Fifteen contestants from Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania that started the quest, the stage was set for an even fiercer battle. The six contestants consisted of four Kenyans including Pascal, Sikin, Mary and Ramar254; Shapeera from Nigeria and Nandy from Tanzania.

The Hosts announced that only three songs would be sang by all the contestants and they would face off against each other. The songs were Omawumi’s ‘Bottom Belle’, Nico and Vinz’s ‘Am I wrong’, and Patoranking’s ‘Girlie O’. The contestants were told that they were expected to outdo whoever they were paired with.

Before the battles commenced, the contestants were advised by a special guest who had earlier thrilled the audience with her performance in person of Nigerian-based Kenyan artiste, Victoria Kimani. She advised the contestants to stay focused and have as much fun as they can once they step on stage.

The opening battle was between the Kenyan Mary and the Tanzanian, Nandy. Mary went on stage first to perform Omawunmi’s 2012 hit song, even as Nandy observed her performance from close range. Nancy performed thereafter to which the trio of MI, Yemi Alade and Bien – declared the contest a draw.

The next battle was between the duo of Pascal and Shaapera, who have perhaps been the best performers so far on the show. They both performed Nico and Vinz’s 2013 hit song. Pascal went on stage first and gave an outstanding rendition of the song. Shapeera was next on stage and she didn’t disappoint as she also gave an electrifying performance which raised the level of excitement of the judges and audience. The judges appeared short of words with MI particularly saying that he believes that the duo will square up in the grand finale to which his co-judges agreed.

Next up were the Kenyans Sikin and Ramar254 who delivered a good performance of Patoranking’s hit song ‘girlie O’. After the comments of the judges, Victoria Kimani once again stepped on stage to thrill the audience from her rapporteur of songs. After this, the judges called the trio of Shaapera, Mary and Ramar254 as contestants up for possible eviction. At the end of the day, the Kenyan – Mary was evicted from the show.
