Lagos state demolishes Owonifari market
The Lagos state government has demolished the over 40-year old Owonifari Market in Oshodi, Lagos, over security concerns.
There had been security issues within the area, and the market was closed on Tuesday to try and curb it.
The government aimed to sanitize and transform the area by the demolition, according to Commissioner of Information & Strategy, Steve Ayorinde.
“The Owonifari area will be transformed into an ultra modern bus terminal with new bus shelters that are befitting of a structured park in a mega city,” Ayorinde said.
The Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, and other government officials were present at the demolition.
