El Chapo re-arrested
Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who made headlines following his spectacular escape from prison, has been re-arrested.
Guzman was arrested on Friday morning, after a gun battle between his men and Mexican marines in Los Mochis, a city in his home state of Sinaloa.
Mexican President Pena Nieto announced the capture on Twitter, writing: “Mission Completed: We have him. I would like to inform the Mexican people that Joaquin Guzman Loera has been detained.”
Mexico will be looking to imprison him under more secure holdings, as extraditing him to the United States would indicate weakness of their penal system.
Guzman had fled his first cell through a mile-long tunnel cartel members dug under the prison leading to his jail cell.
