Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has informed Fernando Torres that he does not form part of his plans for the 2016/17 season, reports AS.
Torres, who is on loan at Atleti from Milan, is out of contract in the summer and has expressed his desire to prolong his stay at his boyhood club.
However, the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker held talks with coach Simeone on Monday and the Argentinian told him that he does not intend to secure his services on a permanent basis before the close of the January transfer window.
Atleti are subject to a FIFA transfer ban and are unlikely to be able to sign any players, including Torres, in the summer transfer window or during the next January transfer window.
The Spanish capital club have lodged an appeal against the transfer ban and there remains a slim possibility that they could prolong Torres’ spell at the Vicente Calderon in the summer if he performs well from now until the end of the season.
