Angelique Kerber wins 2016 Australian Open – Germany’s Angelique Kerber has shocked favorite Serena Williams to win the final of the 2016 Australian Open.

Kerber, who is ranked number 6 in the world, managed to defeat defending champion Williams  6-4 3-6 6-4 to win her first ever Grand Slam.

“My dream come true on this night,” Kerber said, “My whole life I was working neally hard but now I am here and I can say I am a grand slam champion and it sounds really crazy.”

Williams, who performed way below par, was quick to praise Kerber on a very good win.

“It was a great match,” World number 1 Serena said. “Angie, you did so well. You played the best in the tournament so let me be the first to congratulate you.”
