The Apex court’s ruling, which was presided by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed dismissed the appeal filed by the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Chief Edward Nkwegu.

According to the Apex court, reasons for its verdict will be presented on February 5, 2016.

Bear in mind, the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu had upheld the election of Dave Umahi.

Chief Nkwegu had challenged the declaration of Dave Umahi as winner of April 11 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Ebonyi State governorship election petition tribunal had in October in Abakaliki dismissed the petition filed for lacking in merit and the inability of the petitioner to prove allegations of corrupt practices and criminalities as contained in the petition.

Chief Nkwegu, not satisfied with the judgment of the tribunal, proceeded to the Court of Appeal in Enugu to challenge the verdict.
