The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade 1, is reported dead.
According to sources in the palace, the monarch, 101, died at about 7.30pm on Tuesday, January 19 in his palace on his bed, after first losing consciousness, in the Monatan area of Ibadan, Oyo state. His corpse has been taken to a morgue.
Oba Odugade, who was born on April 14, 1914, became the Olubadan in July 2007.
He was the 17th Olubadan since the title was elevated from Baale Ibadan to the Olubadan in 1930.
The first traditional ruler to bear the new title was Oba Okunola Abass, who reigned from 1930-1946.
The Olubadan, which simply means “Lord of Ibadan”, is the royal title of the king of Ibadan land in Oyo state.
Meanwhile, the Personal Assistant to the late monarch, Chief Isiaka Akinpelu, however, denied the death, saying his principal was hale and hearty.
