Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes his former club is the perfect environment platform for Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama to become a world-class player.
The Gunners are in the midst of a midfield injury crisis, with Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Francis Coquelin among a host of players spending time on the sidelines.
And Pires believes Wanyama, who has been linked with a move away from St Mary’s in recent windows, is the perfect fit to fill the midfield void at the Emirates.
“I know Wanyama,” Pires is quoted in the Evening Standard. “He is a very good ambassador of Kenyan football and has done well in Southampton but I hope he signs for Arsenal in the future.
“He has the speed, skill and physique. However, I think he needs to score more goals because then he will be world-class material.”
