After going five matches without a win and suffering two consecutive defeats in the premier league, Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal is under pressure and could be fired on Boxing Day.
Manchester United travel to Stoke City on Boxing Day and according to the Daily Mirror, anything short of a win could mean the end of Van Gaal’s reign as Manchester United manager. Manchester United have been tagged as boring over the course of the season and the fans have gradually lost patience with Van Gaal and his philosophy. The last time Manchester United went five matches without a win was in the 1998-1999 season. Of course, Sir Alex Ferguson would turn it around and Manchester United would go on to win and unprecedented treble that season. The case for Van Gaal is slightly different as Manchester United’s lack of attacking flair, Rooney’s poor form and injury problems all point to Van Gaal’s inability to manage the situation at Manchester United and is perceived as ineptitude by the Dutchman. In a season where Manchester United have faltered, Nani, Di Maria and Chicharito have literally become aces for their teams and have been in fantastic form alongside Lyon’s Rafael. All these players where exiled by Van Gaal at the start of the season and such transfer dealings have only helped to alienate Van Gaal in the minds of Manchester United fans. The emergence of Jose Mourinho on the market this weeks and the fact that Manchester United have already lost Ancelotti to Bayern Munich and could well lose Guardiola to Manchester City means the Manchester United board have to act fast and they have. The rumored ultimatum for the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager right now is simple: Beat Stoke City or face the exit door. You will however get the feeling that A victory over Stoke City might not be enough to save Van Gaal’s job.
If Manchester United were to fire Van Gaal on Boxing day and hire Jose Mourinho, the Portuguese manager’s first assignment would be to ready the troops against his most recent employers, Chelsea on the 29th of December.
