Jackson Martinez wants to succeed at Atletico Madrid amid reports linking him with a move to England, according to the player’s agent.
Colombia forward Martinez made a big-money move from Porto to Atletico last summer, but has struggled in Spain so far, having netted just twice in La Liga.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea and Spurs could look to prise him away from Atletico in January – some speculation has even spoken of a possible swap deal involving Diego Costa – but Martinez’s agent says the 29-year-old wants to stay at the Vicente Calderon.
“Jackson wants to succeed at Atletico, [and] he’s going to do it, but it’s the club who decides his future,” said Henrique Pompeo when asked by AS if there is any chance of the player leaving the club in January.
When quizzed on whether there is interest from Chelsea in Martinez, Pompeo replied: “I cannot say that it’s a lie, this is football and no-one knows what will happen in the future. What I want to say is that Jackson is not one of those who goes to a place if it is not through the front door.”
