British tennis star, Andy Murray has picked up the award for sports personality of the year, handed out by BBC, beating off competition from Mo Farah and Andy Murray.
Andy Murray who was part of the Great Britain team that won the Davis Cup this year has become only the fourth athlete to pick up the award twice. British track star, Mo Farah was among the nominees but perhaps, Murray’s greatest competitor was newly crowned unified heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury. Among the nominee was also Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton. The world number 3 tennis player however picked up the most votes and the 28 year old was named the SPOTY.
Rugby Star, Dan Carter was named the oversees sports personality of the year while gymnast, Ellie Downie was named the young sports personality of the year.
