A Court of Appeal has upheld the election of the Senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akapbio, representing the Northwest Senatorial district of Akwa Ibom state of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP).
Recall, SaharaReporters had authoritatively revealed on Thursday, December 10, that the Appeal Court had sacked Mr. Akpabio from the National Assembly.
On the contrary, a three-man panel of judges, Friday struck out the appeal of Mathew Okorie, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the judgment of the election petition tribunal, upholding Akpabio’s election.
Mr Akpabio, took to Twitter to announce the cheering news to his followers on Friday, December 12 2015.
In reaction to the judgement, Akpabio said” My election has just been upheld by the Court of Appeal. Thank you Nigerians”.
Meanwhile, the Online Media House also took to Twitter to apologise to the public on the erroneous report it published on Thursday, December 10, that Mr Akpabio’s election was voided.
