MUST READ: 5 Best Foods To Eat Before Bed

share on:

Sleep is something we relentlessly crave but never seem to get enough of it.

Sleep is really freaking important as getting a good night’s sleep is tied to a slew of health benefits, like clarity of thoughts, quicker reflexes, and an improved mood.

But on some nights, you really cannot get some sleep because your stomach is growling so loudly and the reason for this might be that you failed to grab dinner because of some strict weight loss diet.

Believe it or not, what you eat before bed can have a serious impact on your sleep quality and health.

Here is a list of things that research has proven perfectly OK to eat before bed;

WHITE MEAT

White meat such as Turkey, chicken are probably one of the best pre-bed meals because they have a very low insulin release. They also promote the release of another hormone, glucagon, that assists the body with breaking down stored carbs and fat within your body to be burned for energy.

BANANAS

Bananas contain high levels of magnesium, a mineral that acts as a muscle relaxant, which can help us start snoozing faster.

CHERRIES

A research has proven that adults who drank two glasses of cherry juice daily slept an average of 39 minutes longer than usual.  Cherries are one of the few natural foods that boast of the highest level of melatonin, the chemical that helps control our body’s internal clock.

GREEN VEGETABLE

While these aren’t considered a protein, they contain virtually no calories, are high in fiber, and they’re very filling.

MILK

While growing up, my mother used to make me a warm glass of milk to help me fall asleep, now looking back I can gladly say it works. Milk contains the amino acid tryptophan, a precursor to the brain chemical serotonin which makes it easier for one to fall asleep.
