Emir of Borgu dies at 77
Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, the Emir of Borgu, has passed on after a brief illness.
Dantoro passed away at a hospital in Germany. He was aged 77.
Dantoro, who served in the Nigerian senate after being elected in 1992, will be buried when his body returns to Nigeria.
Following the death of Alhaji Musa Mohammadu, he ascended the throne of the Borgu kingdom in February, 2000.
Dantoro was known by some as the man who bestowed APC leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the title of “Jagaban”, which means “Leader of Warriors.”
In a statement by the Niger state government, he was “highly trustworthy and contributed immensely in fashioning out pragmatic mechanism to improving the existing circumstances of the people of his domain and Nigerlites as a whole.”
