Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone felt his men were the better of both sides at the Madrid derby, insisting his men dropped two points.
Benzema found the net for Real, heading them to the lead in the ninth minute, before Griezmann had his penalty saved by Navas.
Real looked almost certain to get a win before Luciano Vietto saved Simeone’s blushes with the equaliser seven minutes from time.
Atletico almost completed a comeback, but Navas was on hand to keep Martinez at bay. With Simeone thinking a late goal would have been merited.
“The feeling is that we lost two points,” the Argentine told reporters after the 1-1 draw in the Spanish capital. “We had more chances than Real Madrid.
“In the first half the team had two important chances – one for Angel Correa and the penalty.
“I do not think they have created scoring chances [apart from the goal] in the first half.
“It’s an important point but the game was there to win.”
