Senate Resumes Screening Of Ministerial Nominees As Fresh Tension Builds In Over Amaechi

As Nigerian Senate continues screening of ministerial nominees today, October 27, and sets for the confirmation of those earlier screened, fresh tension is building in the upper legislative chamber over the fate of former governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Screening of Ministerial NomineesThis was coming on the heels of the Presidency’s exposition on Amaechi’s travails, as it said his screening in the Senate last week was in order.

However, the respond has generated a mixed reactions among the Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and their Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterparts as they were both believed to be fighting over whether Amaechi should be confirmed or disqualified.

While the PDP caucus  is reaching out to all its members to resist every move to confirm the former Rivers State governor, the APC caucus is stepping up mobilisation to ensure that he is confirmed.

Meanwhile, 6 nominees are on today’s order paper of the Senate for screening.

The nominees listed for screening today are Geoffrey Onyeama, Brigadier Mohammed M. Dan-Ali, Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Professor Isaac Adewole, Pastor Usani Usani Uguru and Abubakar Bwari Bawa and Adewale Folorunsho.

So far, 18 of the nominees have been confirmed, seven screened and 11 are expected to be screened this week.
