Kobe Bryant has, for the first time, spoken out about former teammate Lamar Odom’s recovery.

Odom was found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada after what seemed to be a drug overdose, and Bryant was one of the first people to go see him.

“He’s a brother, above everything else. It’s important to see him get back on his feet,” Bryant said to reporter after a Lakers team practice. “It’s amazing to see him doing so well. It truly is remarkable.”

On the impact the whole ordeal had on him, the 5-time NBA champion said it put “things in perspective.”

“It puts things in perspective a little bit more,” Bryant said. “This is what we do. This is not who we are. Sometimes basketball can get in the way of life and in the way of living.”
