IS claims Russian plane crash
The Islamic State has reportedly claimed responsibility for the Russian passenger plane which crashed in the Sinai Peninsula on Saturday.
The plane, which was carrying 214 Russian passengers and 3 Ukrainian passengers, was flying to St. Petersburg, Russia, from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
According to Egyptian security and medical officers, there were no survivors in the crash.
“Unfortunately, all passengers of Kogalymavia flight 9268 Sharm el-Sheikh-Saint Petersburg have died. We issue condolences to family and friends,” a statement by the Russian embassy in Cairo said.
According to the IS, the act was in revenge for Russian air strikes against militants in Syria, though experts are lost as to how the act was carried out.
