Murray out of US Open
Andy Murray has become the latest big name to exit the US Open after a shocking fourth-round exit.
Murray lost to Kevin Anderson, with the South African recording a 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-0) victory.
Anderson now faces his first-ever Grand Slam quarter final, where he’ll meet French Open winner Stan Wawrinka.
The last time Murray had exited a Grand Slam before the Quarter Final stage was also at the US Open, 5 years ago.
The grind-out match lasted for 4 hours and 18 minutes at the Louis Armstrong stadium.
“That’s obviously something that is disappointing to lose,” Murray said after a run of 18 Grand Slams in which he made at least the quarter-finals.
“Obviously that’s many years’ work that’s gone into building that sort of consistency. To lose that is tough.”
