Manchester United are set to complete a mega deal for Anthony Martial from Monaco but Wayne Rooney has never heard of his newest competition according to Morgan Scheiderlin.
Manchester United and AS Monaco have been in contact over a move for Martial which is reportedly valued at 36 million pounds and could rise to 58 million pounds depending on the player’s performance and the forward is set to become one of the most expensive teenagers in world football and Wayne Rooney’s latest competition as Manchester United push to complete the deal before the deadline day.
According to Morgan Schneiderlin, Wayne Rooney had never heard about Anthony Martial until yesterday and had to ask the only Frenchman in the side (Schneiderlin) who Martial was “To be honest, yesterday [Sunday] on the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak,” Schneiderlin said. “I told him he’s a great player with great potential, who has played some good matches with Monaco last season and the beginning of this. I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Therry Henry, even if it’s the press who are making that comparison.”Morgan Schneiderlin then added that he was looking forward to linking up with his countryman at Old Trafford.
36 million pounds which could rise to 58 million pounds for a 19 year old has all the makings of a panic buy, something that Van Gaal said he would not do. While Anthony Martial is gifted, the price might be too high. Manchester United would do well to be careful with a forward they buy from Monaco. We all remember how the huge outlay for Falcao ended.
