Amidst all the controversy, FIFA still gathered together for a meeting and decided on the future of the 2022 World Cup and decided that it would be held in the winter.
According to Rob Harris, a sports reporter covering the FIFA executive council meeting, FIFA confirmed that the World Cup which is set for Qatar cannot hold in the summer as usual because of the extreme weather conditions in the region and decided on a winter world cup which would begin in November and end in December.

If this report is confirmed, European and South American clubs would have to work to adjust their calendars to accommodate the World cup. This could mean the season starting early and then heading in for a winter break.
