Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has defended Barcelona defender Pique, who was booed by the Spain fans.
Pique’s view on Catalan independence has sparked controversy, with teammate Ramos disagreeing with him.
The disagreement has revived talks of discord between the Barcelona and Madrid faction of the Spanish squad.
However, some other Spain players have backed Pique, with Fabregas, Cazorla and Alba throwing their support behind him. And Perez is the latest addition to his camp.
“The only thing that I can say is that I’m sure that sometimes he gets things wrong, like everybody,” the Real Madrid president told the Spanish radio programme The Twelve O’ Clock Match.
“But it doesn’t seem right to whistle anybody and even less so somebody for the national team.
“Pique is how he is but it seems bad to me that he’s whistled.”
