Roberta Vinci has done the unthinkable, she beat Serena Williams in the semifinal of the US Open and ended the dream of a Serena slam for.

Serena Williams had already won the Rolland Garros, Wimbledon and the Australian Open this year and was looking to add the US Open to complete the Serena Slam but Vinci ended that. Serena Williams started the game in high spirits but made a lot of unforced errors. Serena Williams took the first set 6-2. In the second set, both Serena Williams and Roberta Vinci broke each other before Serena Williams dropped two set points and Vinci broke her to win and go on to take the set 6-4. A host of unforced errors which were very uncharacteristic of the world number one ensured that Roberta Vinci was able to struggle to a 6-4 win. A 6-2 4-6 4-6 loss cost Serena another Serena slam and she will have to try again next year.
