Arsene Wenger followed Anthony Martial for 7 years, scouted him for two and allowed Manchester United to swoop in and sign him before declaring that Manchester United’s newest hero was better suited as a winger.
Philippe Lamboley, Anthony Martial’s agent reacted to this quickly addressing Wenger and telling the world that he felt the iconic manager was wrong.
“If the analysis of Wenger was to justify not having signed Anthony, then I accept his words and so he’s a a winger. But in football there are those who follow players and those that buy them,” he told RMC radio station. “Anthony Martial is a true modern centre forward. I am surprised by the analysis of Wenger, who has apparently followed him since he was an adolescent.” Martial has been a becon of hope at Manchester United this season, setting Old Trafford alight and Wenger would definitely wish he had signed the youngster who became the most expensive teenager in the world on deadline day and many called the move a desperate delve into the market.
Wenger obviously has to be wrong. Martial has shown the instinct, positioning, movement, composure and finishing of a natural center forward. Let’s not forget his 4 goals already this season (that is as many as Falcao scored for Manchester United all last season). Martial plays and moves like Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry and it was Arsene Wenger who converted Henry from a winger to a forward
