Van Gaal on Martial fee
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has admitted that the club paid over the top for latest signing, Anthony Martial.
Van Gaal was speaking at an event for the club’s executive ticket holders when he spoke about it.
“The fee is ridiculous,” the former Netherlands boss said about the reported €80 million deal.
“The problem is when Manchester United try to sign a player, it costs £10m more. When we are selling one, the clubs always want to get them for less.”
Van Gaal however believes that Martial wasn’t signed for him, but for his successor.
“I have not bought Martial for me, I have bought him for the next manager of Manchester United,” he said, who he “feels” is Ryan Giggs.
