Yes, the Italians are at it again. There is talk of introducing a new card into the game of football, the green card.
There are already red and yellow cards to serve as warning for disobeying the rules of the game and apparently the Italians are looking to introduce a green card as a reward for good behavior. According to La Stampa, the green card will be unveiled later in the month after successful trials in youth leagues and is set to be tested in the Serie B. the green card is set to be earned for actions such as breaking up fights, stopping the game for an injured opponent and for assisting the official to make a correct decision.
Italy have a reputation for having some of the most notorious rule breakers in world football and it is a step in the right direction to introduce an incentive to good behavior. Especially if that card can cancel out a yellow card.
