Chelsea had a disastrous first half but fought back brilliantly from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw curtesy of goals from second half substitutes, Ramires and Willian.
Chelsea simply did not show up for the first half and were bossed about by Shamus Colback, Ayoze Perez and Sissoko in the midfield and the Saint James’ Park side got their due reward in the 42nd minute when Anita’s cross was completely mistimed by Zouma Allowing Ayoze Perez to control and fire home off the post to make it 1-0. Newcastle started the second half on the front foot and in the 60th minute made it 2-0 as Wijnaldum rose highest to meet Ayoze’s corner and nod home. Chelsea introduced Willian and Ramires and the emphasis of the game changed and in the 79th minute, Ramires fired home a belter of a shot to give Chelsea a lifeline and seven minutes later, the blues took it with Ramires free kick flying into the net without getting a touch off anybody to make it 2-2. Chelsea probed and prodded for a goal but Newcastle United held firm to earn a 2-2 draw.
The draw means that Chelsea have failed to win in four attempts at Saint James’ Park now and Mourinho is yet to pick a premier league victory at Newcastle’s home ground.
