Arturo Vidal has said the main reason he joined Bayern was to win the champions league which has eluded him.

The Chile international moved to the Allianz Arena for €40 million from juventus, losing 3-1 to Barcelona in last season’s champions league final.

And having been backed by team coach Jorge Sampaoli, the midfielder insists the chance of holding the champions league trophy was a major motivation.

“[Sampaoli] immediately said it was a great option for me,” he said to Sport Bild. “Especially in terms of my desire to finally win the Champions League. Every player wants to hold the Champions League trophy in their hands at some point.

“So the decision to move to Bayern was easy.”
