The color of your skin mainly depends on the pigment called melanin. Harsh weather conditions adversely affect our skin, expecially if you stay under the sun without any form of protection. Stress also can affect the general outlook of your skin tone, making it appear darker than it ought to.
It is not a totally bad idea to want to lighten your skin. If done properly, you are only restoring the natural skin tone. Of course people take it far when they ‘bleach’, using harsh cosmetic products. But this is not what I’m talking about here.

Tomatoes have natural bleaching and whitening property that help to lighten up your skin. Rich in vitamin C, and has astringent property that makes it a best remedy for treating the black skin, especially for the people who suffer from acne prone or oily skin.
Take a tomato (preferably small) and grate it to extract its pulp. Then take this pulp into your hands and apply this on all over the skin where you have dark discoloration on the skin. Allow it to dry completely for just few minutes and then apply another coating of this pulp on the same applied skin. Do the same process of reapply this pulp on the skin for about 15 to 25 minutes After completing the reapplication process, massage the applied area gently for a minute or two. Rinse it with water and do this daily to get rid of the dark pigmentation slowly on the skin.
Yogurt is a by-product of milk that has many nutrients that are good for the skin. It also contains lactic acid that has bleaching properties. The following remedies are suitable for all skin types.
Gently rub plain yogurt onto your skin. Leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Do this once daily for several weeks to notice a significant change in your complexion. You can also mix one tablespoon of fresh yogurt with one-half tablespoon of honey. Apply the mixture on your face and neck. Leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off with water. Do this daily to improve your skin tone and complexion. You can also add a little lemon juice and some oatmeal to yogurt to make a thick paste, and apply it as a face mask. This will also help keep your skin supple and moisturized.
Milk contains calcium that helps to regulate the normal color of the skin. It acts as an effective barrier to help fight against moisture loss, so that it prevents the skin from losing moisture that in turn is pivotal for keeping your skin tone. Regular taking of calcium based milk helps to stimulate the melanocytes which are the skin cells that produce melanin pigment. Lactic acid in milk helps to reduce the pigmentation of the skin to lighten up its complexion.
Get 1cup of milk, either goat’s or cow’s milk (is preferred) and place it on stove over medium heat. Make sure that the milk gets warm but not hot. Then get a clean cloth and soak it in the warm milk. Now take out the cloth and wring it to remove the excessive milk from the cloth. Remember that this wash cloth has to be fully soaked in warm milk but not to dip in it. Apply this cloth on the skin and rub it gently for few minutes till the cloth gets dried. Then soak it again in the milk and repeat the same process till you covered all the skin. Repeat this process of dipping, applying and rubbing for about 3 to 5 times continuously. Do this process every day for couple of weeks especially your shower and then follow it twice a week till you get rid of the dark skin.
Orange contains vitamin C which is very essential for skin care. It also acts as bleaching agent to lighten up the skin tone. The regular intake of either orange or its fresh juice will improve help the overall skin texture and its suppleness.
Here are two ways that has to be used to lighten up the skin with these oranges.
Pour orange juice and turmeric powder in a bowl then mix it to make it paste and apply this paste on the face, neck, hands and legs at night time before you go to sleep. Leave it overnight and then rinse the paste applied area with water in the next morning. Continue doing this process daily until you get bright skin tone than before.
The second method is by using the orange peel; this process helps to lighten up the spots and other marks on the facial skin and finally makes you look young and beautiful with fair skin than before. This orange peel yogurt helps to remove the blackheads when massaged in circular motion. Take some orange peel and dry it completely under a shade, (not in sun) for few hours. After it dries completely, grind this peel to get it into powdered form. Then take a tablespoon of this powder and add this to plain but not flavored yogurt. Stir it well to make it like paste and apply the paste on the face, neck and other dark areas of the skin. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and then rinse it with water. Repeat the same for about 2 – 3 times a week to get rid of the dark patches on the skin and also to have even skin tone all over the body.
Papaya can also be used to lighten your skin complexion. Papaya contains natural bleaching properties and the various nutrients in it will make your skin glow with health. Eat papaya as a fruit. The general cleansing properties of papaya will cleanse the skin of impurities that could be causing it to darken.
Rub the inner part of the skin of a papaya on your face. Allow it to dry. Then wash your face with cold water and pat it dry. This will give your skin a nice glow. Do this daily. Mash a ripe papaya and mix it with one cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Massage the mixture all over your face and neck. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes before washing it off with cold water. Do this at least once a week to notice a visible change in your skin tone.
Cucumber will ensure that your skin is firm as well as supple. Supple and firm skin often has an even and light skin tone. Cucumber also has a cooling effect on your skin. It is suitable for all skin types.
Place cucumber slices directly on the dark skin areas in need of lightening treatment. Leave them on for a few minutes, remove them and then rinse your skin with lukewarm water. Do this twice daily. Grate a cucumber and mix it with honey to make a spot-reducing mask. Apply the mask on your face and neck. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water. Do this twice daily for effective results. You can also mix one teaspoon each of lemon juice and cucumber juice. Apply it on your face, leaving it on for 15 to 20 minutes or until it dries. Wash it off with water. Do this once daily.
The best way to encourage the growth of new skin cells to improve your skin tone is to get rid of old skin cells. Oatmeal helps exfoliate the skin, leaving it supple and soft.
Mix oatmeal with tomato juice and apply the mixture on your face. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then wash it off with cold water. While rinsing, rub it gently so that the oatmeal can scrub off the dead skin cells. Do this daily. Alternatively, mix one teaspoon of oatmeal powder, a pinch of turmeric and a few drops of lemon juice to make a thick paste. Apply it on your face and let it dry. Wash off the dry mask with water. Do this once daily.
Follow these natural remedies to lighten your skin complexion. However, note that these are very effective but will take time and patience to achieve your desired goal. The market is now flooded with skin-lightening creams and lotions. Some products actually have harmful chemicals that can ultimately damage your skin by giving you sunburn and even leads to deadly skin diseases.
