Vincent Kompany has cited City’s home form, as key to regaining the EPL title from Chelsea.
Kompany headed in the second goal of the match late in the second half, after Aguero’s opener, before Fernandinho completed the rout.
Kompany believes home wins will play a crucial role in their title bid this season.
“We have to demonstrate this same determination throughout the year,” the City skipper told Sky Sports.
“It’s wrong to say that we didn’t play well at points last year, but now, our home form is going to be so important, and to do this in the first home game, in front of 55,000 fans sends out the right signal.
“I think we played like this against Chelsea last year, but the difference this time is that we managed to score and not make the same mistakes.
“All in all, it was a comfortable day, but mainly because we did everything right in preparation for this game.”
The centre-back, 29, netted in successive league games for the first time since December 2013 and joked he’d been taking tips from last year’s golden boot winner Sergio Aguero in training.
“I’m learning from Aguero but as a defender it’s not what I take most pride in.
“I’m really happy with our two clean sheets and if I can contribute, I always love to do that, especially in front of our fans.
“It means a lot to me I can guarantee you but the clean sheet is what will make me sleep well at night.”
