Okay, a brief history lecture; Zlatan Ibrahimovic started his footballing career in Malmo. Now, almost 20 years later, Ibrahimovic, who is now a global footballing superstar is set to return to Malmo with PSG in the UEFA Champions league. Malmo fans are the most excited people about the draw even though it means their side’s chances of qualifying for the second round look bleak at the moment.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is an icon in the city of Malmo even having the presidential suite in the largest hotel in Malmo, the Clarion Hotel renamed the Zlatan Ibrahimovic suite. And When Malmo were drawn into the group that already included PSG and Real Madrid, Malmo fans trooped to the club’s official website to get the exact date that their hero would be visiting and in doing so, crashed the clubs website. “There was a lot of pressure on it [the website] just after the draw was made,” Malmo’s head of communications, Peter Ahlander, told Reuters with the site still struggling 12 hours after the draws had been made as fans were still overloading the site.
Ibrahimovic in his usual cocky attitude took to Facebook to talk about the upcoming fixture against his boyhood club and managed to state that he expected the entire Malmo to turn up for the match but he did it subtly though.
