Chelsea have decided to ensure that Manchester United do not compete favorably with them this season as they look to pull the carpet on Manchester United’s bid for Barcelona’s Pedro with a bid of their own.
Manchester United have advanced negotiations to sign Pedro from Barcelona and following a 22 million euro agreement between both clubs, all that seem left are medicals and personal terms for the deal to be final but Chelsea have stepped in an would be looking to blow the deal up. Officials from Chelsea flew into Barcelona yesterday to meet with officials of FC Barcelona according to the guardian in an attempt to hash out a deal for the set to depart Pedro. No official outcome has been stated from the meeting but Chelsea who are still in the market for a player currently have more pulling pedigree with a more established and balanced squad than Manchester United and that could be an advantage for the reigning premier league champions.
This is not the first time Chelsea have hijacked a deal for a player who is poised to join another club. They did tit with Willian who was set to join Tottenham and Salah who was set to join Liverpool, Gary Cahill could have been an Arsenal player and Crespo was also set for a move to Liverpool when Chelsea hijacked the deal. It seems their transfer philosophy doesn’t only strengthen the side but it weakens their opponents too.
