Chelsea Appeal Courtois Red Card

Chelsea will appeal against the red card Thibaut Courtois was awarded in their 2-2 league opener draw against Swansea at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea goalkeeper was awarded a straight red card for denying Bafetimbi Gomis a clear goalscoring opportunity on Saturday when Chelsea was 2-1 ahead.

Gomis put the ball behind Begovic from the resulting spot kick, denying Chelsea a league opener win.

The Football Association will hear Courtois’ appeal on Tuesday as he is set to miss Sunday’s clash against City at the Etihad if his one-match ban is upheld.
