Barcelona were unable to produce a comeback display as Atletico Bilbao earned a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou to pick up a 5-1 aggregate win in the Spanish Super Cup as both sides were reduced to 10 men.
Barcelona looked ready to go from the blast of the whistle and threatened to find the back of the net as Pique hit the post in the 13th minute. Atletico defended valiantly ans looked to break on the counter. Barcelona finally got a goal in the 44th minute as Messi popped up in the six yard box to knock the ball in and give Barcelona the lead on the night. Barcelona were still dominating the game in the second half until the 56th minute when Pique was handed a straight red card for questioning the linesman’s decision. Atletico Bilbao the tie beyond Barcelona as they made their man advantage count when Aduriz fired the ball in after being set free in the box. Aduriz knocked the ball in after Bravo saved his initial shot in the 74th minute. Atletico Madrid were also reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute after Kike Sola was sent of for stomping on Mascherano after spending just 7 minutes on the pitch.
The Spanish Super Cup is Atletico Bilbao’s first trophy since 1984 and Barcelona would look to take revenge when both clubs clash in the la liga opener on Sunday
