A collapse earlier in the year cost Manuel Pellegrini’s men a shot at challenging for the title last season and almost cost the Chilean manager his job. Manchester City have kept faith with Pellegrini and have brought in a few players clearly with the goal of winning the Barclays premier league this season.
Pellegrini has let go of some of their fringe players and have gone ahead and replaced them with another set of fringe players and so far, the transfer outlay of the Etihad outfit does noting anyway fix their biggest problems and Manchester City are relying on their momentum to take them to the title but this is the Barclays Premier league and momentum is good but you need more than momentum
Sergio Aguero is one of the best strikers in the world and is the current holder of the BPL golden boot and while Manchester Can rely on the Argentine for goals, Pellegrini must know that he can’t rely on the former Atletico Madrid man to stay fit throughout the season and with the departure of Eden Dzeko, there is no other recognized goal scorer in the side asides Wilfried Bony who is still trying to adapt to Manchester City’s style of play. Raheem Sterling scored 7 premier league goals last season so he, can’t be relied upon. David Silva can unlock any defence with his passing but the Spanish wizard always burns out by February and while Yaya Toure is a midfield marshal, Fernando and Fernandinho are not exactly Arturo Vidal or Nemenja Matic. Fabian Delph is good but the England international was a star at Aston Villa, this my friends is Manchester City and Delph might end up being out of his depth. Mangala is one of the most error prone defender right now in the world and Demicheilis would struggle with the pace of the premier league much like he did last season and for Manchester City’s sake, they better hope that Kompany stays fit and in form all season. Kolarov, Clichy, Sagna and Zabaleta are otherwise a breath of fresh air in an otherwise ordinary defense. Joe Hart is a solid 70% goalkeeper. Manchester City also have the UEFA Champions league to worry about and they simply would not be able to survive this season.
Manchester City have it all to do if they are going to be champions this season and they simply don’t have the squad, drive or commitment to go all the way. They may look like champion-material right now but like the popular Cassie song, they’ve got a long way to go.
A talented attack
A strong pedigree
An experienced squad
No back up squad
A poor defense
Lack of sufficient game changers
Barclays Premier League: 3rd
UEFA Champions League: Quarterfinal
FA Cup: Winners
