#360Predicts: Barcelona

share on:

Treble winners last season but a shaky start to the 2015/2016 season, conceding 9 goals in just three matches, Barcelona have it all to do this season as they look to defend the la liga, the copa del rey and the UEFA champions league.

The signing of Alexis Vidal and Arda Turan was clearly a move to strengthen an already phenomenal attack but you just get the feeling that Barcelona’s problems might lie elsewhere this season.

The Super cup matches in in UEFA and the LFP showed one thing, Barcelona need a defensive upgrade. Vermaeleen has been out of action too long to be able to deal with the fast paced moves of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann and While Pique is a quality defender, he doesn’t possess the ability to take on responsibility like Sergio Ramos. Mathieu simply put, has his best years behind him. Jordi Alba is great going forward but asides his pace, the Spaniard can be a bit of a defensive liability. Bartra has bit been given enough playing time to develop and Dani Alves is beginning to show signs that he might be on the decline. While their defence might not be up to standard, Barcelona can rely on their goalkeepers, Marc Andre Ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo who were excellent last season. While Ter Stegen is still susceptible to the occasional mistake, Bravo has proven to be a rock behind his defense on the past 12 months. Ivan Rakitic was a breath of fresh air in Barcelona’s midfield last season but Barcelona are still yet to replace Xavi in the midfield. While Iniesta is still one of the best midfielders in the world, it is obvious that the man who scored the winning goal in the 2010 world cup final has his best days behind him. As for attack well, Barcelona have that in spades, Messi’s god-like abilities, Neymar’s ability to make veteran defenders look like rookies and a complete forward in Luis Suarez, Barcelona may have sold Pedro but when you have three players who together can bang 122 goals in a 9 month season, you are allowed to sell Pedro.

Barcelona may have the world’s greatest attack but they do not have the same strength in their squad as they did last season. Barcelona face stiff competition from Real Madrid in the league and the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus in the UEFA champions league. The season just starting and Barcelona have the transfer window to strengthen their squad and they need to.
