My Song Of The Moment: Lay Me Down By Sam Smith

I am a huge, huge, very huge fan of Sam Smith. He is one of the singers I can never stop listening to. Every time I listen to any of his songs, it feels as if the song was written with my emotions in mind; the hope for a love that may never be, the forbidden kind of love, falling for the wrong person, loving someone that loves another, the wishful thinking to be a part, even if it is just a little part, of that person’s life, the cry to be noticed, to be loved, to be wanted by the same person that you want, knowing there is no hope but still holding on, the consolation that you’re not alone.

I listen to Sam Smith and millions of emotion flood my heart and I can feel him singing in my ears. I know it’s crazy but he is one of those very few people that can trigger something very strong in me; strong enough to write about without taking a break and it should not be surprising that my song of the moment is by him.

Lay me down is the debut single (originally released in February, 2013) and the lead single from his debut studio album “In The Lonely Hour” that was released in 2014. The song was later re-released in February, 2015 hitting number 8 on US Billboard Hot 100 and a remix featuring John Legend was recorded for the British charity telethon “Comic Relief” in March, 2015.

The old music video was also replaced with a new one that has over 8 million views on YouTube where Sam Smith was mourning the death of his husband (yes, his husband. It’s no longer news that Sam is gay). The video was simple yet so emotional. You could feel his pain as he stood by the coffin, the joy as he held his partner’s hands while they were getting married, the happiness as the crowd cheered them on as they got married and the sadness as they sat in the church with burning candles to mourn with Sam Smith. With his powerful and magical voice, the solemn beat, it was sadly beautiful; too beautiful that I found myself listening to it over and over. Each line of the song is embedded with such thick emotion that I feel deep down my heart.

This song is deep; so much was conveyed in just 4 minutes. It is my song of the moment because it speaks to me, makes me appreciate the moments I have now with the ones I love, to love and care for them before they are gone, never to return again; love what you have now before it is too late to show how much you actually. Life is too short, love everyone around you. You never can say when you will have to say goodbye forever. I am in love with Lay Me Down by Sam Smith; I can’t get enough of it.

This is the lyrics of the song. I hope it strikes the chord in you as it did in you *winks*

Yes, I do, I believe that one day I will be

Where I was right there right next to you

And it’s hard, the days just seem so dark

The moon, the stars are nothing without you

Your touch, your skin, where do I begin?

No words can explain the way I’m missing you

Deny this emptiness, this hole that I’m inside

These tears they tell their own story

Told me not to cry when you were gone

But the feeling’s overwhelming, it’s much too strong

Chorus:

Can I lay by your side?

Next to you, you

And make sure you’re alright

I’ll take care of you

I don’t want to be here if I can’t be with you tonight

I’m reaching out to you, can you hear my call?

This hurt that I’ve been through

I’m missing you, missing you like crazy

Chorus:

Can I lay by your side?

Next to you, you

And make sure you’re alright

I’ll take care of you

I don’t want to be here if I can’t be with you tonight

Lay me down tonight

Lay me by your side

Lay me down tonight

Lay me by your side

Can I lay by your side?

Next to you….. You……
