Bana Fanaye, who is also known as Mahamat Mustapha, is suspected to be the sect’s weapons supplier.
The troops that arrested Fanaye also recovered a large weapons cache which includes guns, rockets and ammunition, buried in a house in the Chadian capital, N’djamena.
According to reports, the weapons were meant for insurgents fighting in Nigeria.
“These were weapons that Baana Fanaye, Boko Haram’s logistics chief for northern Cameroon and Chad, was preparing to send to Nigeria,” one report stated.
The group have gone on the offensive in recent weeks, carrying out multiple attacks around Maiduguri in Borno state.
