Wizkid Addresses BET Awards In A Lighthearted, Quite Condescending Series Of Tweets

In one his best rants ever, Wizkid practically poked fun at BET and their annual awards, basically asking them to chill.

The popstar was also nominated for the Best International Act – Africa alongside Yemi Alade and Fuse ODG who have also aired their feelings about the award’s discrimination towards African artists, said on Twitter that he harbours no ill feelings but he can’t be showing up for interviews, etc. when awards will not be giving to him (and his category) during the main event.

He says that what inspired the series of tweets is that he heard BET is mad at him.

But he says it’s all love, and not done to spite anyone or any show.

He then dropped a revelation about his 2012 Best International Act – Africa win. He did not go.

So far, Wizkid is the artist to have addressed this BET issue extensively. The previous two artists had different approaches, with Fuse ODG addressing BET in a respectful tweet and Yemi Alade bearing her mind in a very real way and then backing down by deleting the Instagram post.

Wizkid’s version is also downright condescending but African fans are going to love him for this (I already do!), one can only wonder what effect it will have on his gradual creeping into the American industry.

He signed off with a shout to the Best International Act – Africa winner, Stonebwoy. Wiz is definitely not a kid anymore.
