Over 15 years after beginning his managerial career with Real Madrid Castilla, Rafa Benitez has returned to now take charge of Real Madrid’s senior team after going around Europe, successfully managing teams and proving he has what it takes to manage the most successful football club in the world.
Following the firing of Carlo Ancelotti, Benitez was the odds on favorite to take over at the Bernabeu, and after the Spaniard resigned from Napoli, it was clear his next destination would be Madrid. Real Madrid offered Benitez a three year contract and he accepted and was announced earlier today. The 55 year old former Chelsea and Liverpool manager was full of emotion as he addressed the press promising to do his best after stating that he was home “It’s an exciting day because I’m back home again,” he said “I hope to win titles and play well. This is the hardest part, when you have to speak but don’t know what to say. It’s a very exciting day for me. I promise to work with dedication. I hope we can repay the confidence placed in us.”
Well, we can only wish Benitez well and hope he has more success than Mourinho and Ancelotti who left the club unceremoniously after so much was expected of their reigns as managers of Real Madrid
