Rafael Nadal‘s status in tennis continues to fall.
The Spaniard, who is known as the King of Clay, today lost to Novak Djokovic of the French Open.
It’s Nadal’s second high-profile loss on clay courts this year, the first his loss to Andy Murray at the final of the Madrid Masters.
Nadal, on his 29th birthday, suffered his first defeat in six years and his second in 72 matches at Roland Garros.
Injuries have plagued Nadal in recent months, hence the 7-5 6-3 6-1 loss for the 9-time Roland Garros champion didn’t come as much of a surprise.
Djokovic is now two wins from completing the career Grand Slam of all four major titles, and will play Andy Murray or David Ferrer in the semi-finals on Friday.
